The Kutztown Dolphins Swim Team was established in June 1964 by parents of area families to provide competitive, team-oriented swimming opportunities to all interested youth swimmers. Our mission is to promote participation in competitive swimming by providing a safe, enjoyable, well- organized program for all age group swimmers. We are part of the Berks County Swimming Association and operate out of the Kutztown Borough Pool.Â
Our swimmers range in age from 5 years old to high school seniors. For safety, all swimmers are required to be able to swim one lap (25 meters) without assistance and be comfortable with putting their face in the water in order to be a part of our team. If your swimmer is not yet ready to meet those requirements we recommend they participate in swimming lessons prior to joining our team.
Swimmers will be evaluated during a "try out" period to determine their skill level and practice group they will be placed in. All groups are arranged by ability, not age, so they can get the most out of practices. Practices are typically in the evenings for the first week or two while schools are finishing, and then change to the mornings. All practices are weather permitting. We WILL swim in the rain, however if there is thunder and lightning in the area practices will be postponed or canceled.
Meets are held on Monday evenings, weather permitting. As long as there is no thunder or lightning, the meets will be held as scheduled. If a meet is unable to be held due to weather, it will be rescheduled for later in the week.
Our season finishes up with our league championships, typically held the last weekend in July. Friday night is the Silver Championship, which is for all swimmers who have events that they did not obtain a county qualifying time in. Saturday and Sunday are the County Championships which require a qualifying time to attend. Qualifying times can be found on the Berks County Swimming Association website: https://berkscountyswimming.com/championships.html
