The Head Coach will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Kutztown Dolphins summer swim program, including overseeing all coaching staff, developing training plans, and ensuring a positive, fun, and competitive experience for all swimmers (typically ages 5-18). The Head Coach will serve as the primary representative and role model for the team, upholding the team's mission of sportsmanship, skill development, and team spirit.
1. Coaching and Training:
Design, implement, and oversee daily practice schedules and training plans for all age groups, focusing on stroke technique, endurance, and racing strategies.
Directly coach all age groups and/or all age groups have direct coaching at every practice.
Evaluate and provide constructive feedback to swimmers to aid in skill improvement.
Ensure all practices are conducted in a safe, fun, and structured environment.
2. Staff Management:
Schedule and supervise all Assistant Coaches and Junior Coaches.
Lead regular staff meetings to ensure consistent coaching philosophy and messaging across all age groups.
Delegate specific age group responsibilities and tasks to assistant coaches.
3. Team Operations and Administration:
Manage the swim meet schedule, including coordinating meet entries via Team Manager, relays, and scratch sheets.
Act as the primary liaison between the coaching staff, the Team Board/Coordinator, and the parents.
Attend all scheduled championship and BCSA swim meets, and practices and invitationals as determined by coaching staff, team events, and mandatory pre-season meetings.
Manage team equipment inventory and ensure proper use and maintenance.
4. Team Culture and Communication:
Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivational team culture centered on sportsmanship, effort, and fun.
Communicate clearly and effectively with parents and swimmers regarding practice changes, meet logistics, team policies, and swimmer progress.
Handle swimmer and parent conflicts or concerns professionally and in accordance with team policies.
Required:
Prior experience coaching competitive swimming, preferably with summer league or age-group teams.
Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and water safety (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hiring), and required Pennsylvania clearances.
Thorough knowledge of competitive swimming strokes, techniques, and racing strategies.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays for practices and meets.
Must be able to pass a background check.
